Status Quo is a team of humble beginnings, and serve as a great example of how patience, dedication, and a rock solid work-ethic can eventually yield success. Status Quo was catapulted into the limelight when Strongside, one of MLG’s most decorated veterans, joined forces with Totz, FlameSword, and eventually Ace to form a new and improved Status Quo. When Strongside left to reunite with Final Boss, the team welcomed Clutch to fill the void.

After establishing themselves as a legitimate contender online, Status Quo set off on their quest to become one of the league’s most recognizable teams. They finally achieved pro status starting in Orlando 2008, and have consistently improved their rankings since then. Their story is unique, inspiring, and a great example of how anything is possible on the MLG Pro Circuit.

History

Coming into the 2009 Season, there was quite a bit of buzz and hype surrounding Status Quo. In the off-season, Ace joined up on the team as SQ's third member. The search was now on for a solid 4th. Totz held a Winter LAN at his home in Chicago, to which twenty or so Halo 3 pros flew. Among the pros was StrongSide, who noticed both Totz and Flamesword's talent and potential. Deciding that it was time to move on and attempt the role of mentor, StrongSide left Final Boss in hopes of taking the two young guns under his wing and bringing them to the top. The foursome now had a total of 10,398 points and secured themselves the 10th seed going into the opener.

With the announcement of the new team came many criticisms and comments. Some said the team would soar to new heights, while others seriously questioned StrongSide's move and his decision to abandon Final Boss. Regardless of what people thought, the team kept their focus and practiced hard for Meadowlands. In the blink of an eye, April had arrived and StrongSide and his new crew were finally asked to show their stuff.

Status Quo's first loss came in the form of 'Side's previous team: Final Boss. Status Quo was quickly 3-0'ed and put into Placement Round 2. There they met Heaven and Earth, beating them in a close 3-2 series. This would not be the last time SQ would run into them this tournament though; the teams would bump heads again two series later and this time, Heaven and Earth took the extended series by a score of 6-4. Status Quo went on to finish 7th at their first tournament.

It wasn't exactly what StrongSide had hoped for, but it was a Top 8 finish nonetheless. The team picked themselves up and set their eyes on Columbus. Unable to improve upon their performance in the Meadowlands, Status Quo once again found themselves with a 7th place finish. Disappointed in two consecutive poor finishes in the eyes of a player who has won a National Championship and numerous events, StrongSide decided to go back to his former team and try things for a second time. The loss of StrongSide was hard to take for Totz:

"The loss of StrongSide after Columbus was devastating; he was like another brother to me. I definitely looked up to him and when he left, it felt empty. I would love to see 'Side in a Status Quo jersey again someday."

Scrambling, the team had to find a 4th. At the same time, Clutch had just left Believe the Hype and was looking for a team. Could the young man who secured both a 3rd place finish and a 6th place finish in the beginning of the season fill the massive empty shoes left by StrongSide? The answer to this question was simply "no." The combination of a torn ligament in Clutch's thumb and conflicting play styles would hand Status Quo a 10th place finish at the Dallas event.

Clutch returned to Believe the Hype after Dallas and Status Quo would join up with another veteran player: Legend. The team hoped that Legend would bring a wealth of knowledge and fill in the overall leadership role that the team lacked since the departure of StrongSide. Legend would bring both of these qualities to the team, but Status Quo would end up falling victim to what they call "the story of their tournament lives," playing great in the beginning of a competition and trailing off when it truly matters on Sunday. Status Quo went on to place 10th at the Anaheim competition. Former Players
